Defence Forces double shoots down students
The game was played on the Army’s Prunty pitch at the Camp Field and they opened the scoring after 28 minutes. Kenny took possession from a throw-in, turned and volleyed home past Joe Coll.
The CUFL side, under manager Greg Yelverton, were close to an equaliser when Shane Daly-Butz headed Ger O’Boyle’s cross over.
Danny O’Connell had a shot saved and just before half-time, Daly-Butz set up Jason Lyons who found the net but was deemed offside.
Lee Delaney took a Joe Collins shot off-the-line for the Army from O’Connell’s cross only for the Defence Forces to make it 2-0 in the 66th minute.
Dillon scored with a side-footer from Aidan Friel’s (Wexford Youths) cross.
The Colleges & Universities pulled a goal back on 72 minutes when UCC’s Sean McLoughlin netted from Eoin McGreevey’s corner.
McLoughlin went close again six minutes later as his header from a McGreevey corner was scrambled clear.
The Army’s Craig Wall fired just wide of Eoghan Daly’s goal with their last chance but they held on for victory.
