Euro heartbreak for Jack Butland

England goalkeeper Jack Butland looks set to miss the European finals after fracturing his ankle in Saturday’s win. Butland is likely to be ruled out with the tournament 10 weeks away.

Ironically the Stoke goalkeeper’s heartbreak could provide a lifeline to the hopes of Shay Given travelling to Euro 2016.

With Butland sidelined, Given is expected to step up to the Stoke first team for the rest of the season — and get the opportunity to prove to Irish boss Martin O’Neill that he is worthy of a place in the Republic’s travelling party.
