Saturday’s clash with Nottingham Forest was still scoreless when McGeady, one of 40 players in the squad named by Ireland manager Martin O’Neill for the upcoming friendlies against Switzerland and Slovakia, rifled home the opener after 30 minutes.

It proved the catalyst for a comfortable 3-0 win that kept the Owls in possession of the final play-off spot.
