Pochettino:We have options

Manager Mauricio Pochettino claims Tottenham would be in big trouble if they did not have at least a couple of targets in their sights as the club aim to land a striker ahead of the transfer deadline.

Spurs earlier this week brought in Cameroon forward Clinton N’Jie from Lyon, while a £15m (€21m) bid is said to have been lodged for West Brom striker Saido Berahino.

QPR forward Charlie Austin, Crystal Palace’s Yannick Bolasie and Dynamo Moscow frontman Aleksandr Kokorin have all been linked with a switch to White Hart Lane ahead of the September 1 cut-off.

While not being drawn on any specific targets, Pochettino accepted it would be foolish for Spurs not to have more than one iron in the fire.

“Yes, we have confidence we will bring in an offensive player but I can’t give the name today,” Pochettino said.

“Yes, this is true (you need to have more than one option), because if you only have one, and after you fail to sign them, you are dead.”

Pochettino believes Spurs are an attractive proposition to any prospective new signing, with the club having recently moved to a state-of-the-art training facility in Enfield while White Hart Lane is about to be redeveloped.

“Players that we want to bring here are always happy to join us,” he said.

“Tottenham is a big club, we play very attractive football and our philosophy is very clear.

“I promise you: If we want to bring a player they want to come, but we need to bring the right profile for us.”

Pochettino believes N’Jie can have a big impact in the Premier League.

“He is a very good player,” said the Spurs boss. “He is fast, technical, his condition is high. He is very direct player and he is brave.

“He can play in different positions, you know my system is always one where the players can change, move and we are flexible.”
