Mourinho last season: I have no medical qualities. I'd never interfere with decisions of medical staff
Speaking after Thibaut Courtois suffered a head injury against Arsenal last October, Mourinho responded to criticism of Chelsea’s medical team, who allowed the goalkeeper play on until half-time, when he appeared to have suffered a concussion.
"On the bench I don’t communicate with the doctors. I just get decisions. ’Can he stay (on)?’ ’Yes’; ’He has to leave’. ’Okay’," Mourinho said the post-match press conference.
"I have no time and no medical qualities to discuss that.
"I always tell them (Chelsea’s medical team) when I’m on the bench I don’t want to communicate with them," Mourinho added.
"I just want them to give me a decision and they gave me a decision. For me that’s correct.
"The club doctor or the club medical department to take control and the responsibility."
Those comments came following Chelsea’s 2-0 win over Arsenal at Stamford Bridge.
This week, Mourinho criticised club doctor Eva Carneiro and physio Jon Fearn for their treatment of the injured Eden Hazard, with Carneiro’s role at the club since changed.
"I wasn’t happy with my medical staff because even if you are a medical doctor or secretary on the bench, you have to understand the game," Mourinho told reporters after the match.
"If you go to the pitch to assist a player, then you must be sure that a player has a serious problem. I was sure that Eden didn’t have a serious problem. He had a knock and was very tired."
