Diaby signing is a "gift to French league"
The 29-year-old was released by the Gunners this summer, bringing an end to his injury-plagued stay in north London.
The Frenchman’s injury-hit career at Arsenal has been described by Gunners boss Arsene Wenger as the biggest regret of his career.
The 29-year-old was released by the Gunners when his contract expired during the summer having been hit by a number of serious injuries over the last four years.
The France international managed just two appearances over the previous two seasons but was offered a Premier League lifeline by West Brom who had an offer is on the table for the former Auxerre midfielder.
“The big thing with Abou is getting him fit and having the confidence from the medical team to do that. He is a top player and I mean he is a top, top player," said WBA manager Tony Pulis.
But Diaby has opted to return to his homeland.
His former manager at Auxerre, Guy Roux, believes L’OM, who finished fourth last season, may have secured a real bargain.
“This could be the biggest coup for Marseille for a long time and it’s also a great gift to the French league,” he told L’Equipe.
“Diaby is a fabulous player, well-disciplined and pleasant by nature. He has the kind of talent which has been sadly lacking from French football in recent times.”
