Bohemians top after easy win against Limerick FC

In what was arguably their most abysmal performance since they were promoted to the Premier Division, Limerick looked clueless and uninspired at the Lower Carey’s Road venue.

It was a dismal start from the Shannonsiders, whose fans are already disgruntled after the much publicised return to the Markets Fields fell through.

Instead, the club, who played at Thomond Park last season, are now back on the bumpy surface of the home of Limerick junior soccer, a venue they played at a few seasons ago in the First Division.

Goals in either half from Adam Evans, Dean Kelly and Lorcan Prendergast ensured Bohemians collected all three points and got the new term off to the best possible start.

Evans opened the scoring from a Fitzgerald corner inside the opening two minutes, and Kelly capitalised on some comical defending 15 minutes in.

Robbie Williams, attempting to clear, saw his effort ricochet off Evans and Kelly was on hand to fire the ball into an empty net.

Fitzgerald made it 3-0 to the visitors in the 56th minute with an excellent free-kick after Shane Duggan fouled the impressive Kealan Dillon.

Duggan had Limerick’s first real shot on target five minutes from time, but Delaney, mostly a spectator all night, was equal to the effort with most of the Limerick FC fans long gone at that stage.
