Roberto Martinez has allayed fears about James McCarthy’s fitness after the Irish international came off in the 70th minute of Everton’s 4-1 Europa League demolition of Young Boys Bern on Thursday night.

Ahead of tomorrow’s Premier League game against Leicester City, the Everton boss said that only Brian Oviedo – who was substituted with a hamstring problem – incurred an injury on the night.

“Apart from Bryan, nobody is going to be missing from the Young Boys game,” he said. “Everyone is going to be fine and fully recovered.”

With next month’s Euro qualifier against Poland looming ever closer, that will come as encouraging news for Martin O’Neill, as McCarthy looks to put his recurring hamstring problems behind him.

Speaking earlier this week, the player revealed: “We have changed a few things in training — the gaffer has looked after me and I have not been training too much, as he has been pulling me out and letting me do things in the gym. I’m just delighted to be back involved, and long may it continue.”

However, the midfielder’s Irish colleague. Aiden McGeady, will miss out for the Toffees tomorrow as he continues to recover from bruising to his knee.

“Aiden is out for the weekend, he is recovering really well but he had a really strong bone bruising and it is coming off well, he is starting to do some work individually he hasn’t joined the group yet and probably won’t for another couple of weeks until the whole situation clears up properly.”
