Coleman among the world’s best full-backs, says Martinez

Roberto Martinez has hailed Seamus Coleman as one of the best full-backs in the world ahead of tonight’s Europa League clash with Lille at Goodison Park (8.05pm).

Coleman among the world’s best full-backs, says Martinez

The Blues boss echoed the sentiments of former Everton defender David Unsworth that the pairing of Leighton Baines and Coleman are as good as it gets in world football.

He said: “I would agree 100% with that, I think we are privileged to have the full-backs that we have and I know that Leighton has been an incredible influence on Seamus.”

Baines also had a special word of praise for his Donegal team-mate. “Seamus has got an unbelievable amount of energy and is capable of making it into the box and is why he’s got onto a couple of my crosses.”

Irish midfielder Darron Gibson will return to the squad for tonight’s game at Goodison after missing his sides 0-0 draw against Swansea at the weekend.

Meanwhile Emmanuel Adebayor is again absent for Tottenham’s Europa League travels but head coach Mauricio Pochettino denied his non-appearance against Greek side Asteras Tripolis is symptomatic of a wider problem.

The 30-year-old has not travelled for a continental match since last year’s trip to Sheriff Tiraspol.

Pochettino said: “It is a reality that Adebayor has not travelled,

“For every single trip, we have our organisation and selections. We are ready.”
