Rodgers: We’re not doing a Tottenham

Brendan Rodgers has dismissed claims that Liverpool are mirroring Tottenham’s transfer policy, insisting his club has a transfer "strategy".

Rodgers: We’re not doing a Tottenham

Amidst the sale of Luis Suarez to Barcelona, six new players have arrived at Anfield this summer, including former Southampton trio Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana and Dejan Lovren.

Spurs were heavily criticised over their investment in the lead up to Gareth Bale’s world record sale to Real Madrid, with arguably only Christian Eriksen settling at the club of the seven players brought in.

Comparisons have been made between the two clubs but Rodgers insists there is a model in place.

“It’s a different club and different vision we have here. At Liverpool there’s a strategy behind what we are doing,” he said. “We talked a lot with our recruitment team last season, knowing that through the summer we needed to improve the depth of our squad.”

“We always planned to bring in a number of players, hoping we were going to be in the Champions League, so it would give us the opportunity to challenge on all fronts.”
