Ward in dark about future

Republic of Ireland defender Stephen Ward has had no contact from prospective new clubs yet, but hopes to "sort out his future" when he returns from America with Martin O’Neill’s squad.

The Portmarnock native is one of nine senior Wolves players on loan last season who manager Kenny Jackett wants to move on this summer.

Ward had an excellent season for a Brighton side that made the play-offs and was expected to sign for the Seagulls but it appears the Albion are not signing new players until a new manager is appointed.

Premier League clubs Burnley and Sunderland were reported to want to sign the former Bohemians player but reports that Middlesborough had made a bid for Ward were denied by the club.

“Nothing’s happening at the minute,” said the 28-year-old. “It is down to Wolves, if they are speaking to clubs and if they are interested I am sure they will let us know in due course what will happen.

“I am concentrating on being here (with Ireland), playing and getting fit.

“I have not spoken to any clubs so I will wait and see and I’m sure over the next couple of weeks I will find out a bit more.”
