United’s Euro takings €61m

Manchester United earned around £50m (€61m) from this season’s Champions League — highlighting the impact of the financial blow from missing out next season.

United’s Euro takings €61m

Although Uefa’s final club revenue distribution won’t be confirmed until July, the governing body’s formula will see United earn £38.6m (€47m) from TV money and bonuses plus £12m (€14.8m) in matchday takings.

Chelsea will have earned around £40m (€49.4m), Man City £30m (€ 37m) and Arsenal £23m (€28.4m), not including matchday takings. Uefa’s revenue distribution formula will see United receive:

* £13m in TV money (as domestic champions United received 40% of the ‘marketpool’)

* £8.2m from the marketpool for the number of matches United played, proportional to the total number of Champions League games by the four English clubs.

* £7m base fee for qualifying for the group stage.

* £4.2m for win/draw bonuses in the group stage.

* £6.2m for making quarter-finals.
