Contract talks for McCarthy

Former Republic of Ireland manager Mick McCarthy is set for contract talks at Ipswich Town.

McCarthy has revitalised the club in his 18 months in charge, saving them from relegation and then seeing them just miss out on a place in the play-offs this season.

He is to meet owner Marcus Evans for talks with his future up for discussion.

“I’ve got another year to run,” said McCarthy.

“I’m happy here and I would like to think that Marcus and everybody else is happy with me being here.

“I’m seeing him in the summer and we will have a discussion about loads of things.”

Meanwhile, McCarthy has dismissed suggestions he is in dispute with Evans over his transfer budget. McCarthy will again have little cash to spend this summer and most of the club’s dealings will be out-of-contract players and long-term loans. He has no problems with that and said: “I have a great relationship with him (Evans).

“I do understand the gig. I’m not one of those that takes the job and then tries to change it because it doesn’t suit you. You can’t just throw your toys out the pram.

“I took this job in good faith, in trust of what it was. I get well paid for doing it and I think I have repaid it well in the job I’ve done.”
