Russell chosen as Player of the Year
“It’s a great honour to win this award,” she said. “The players who were nominated were all top class so to be chosen as the Player of the Year is a great personal achievement.
“Ultimately it’s nice to be recognised as an individual but as a team, we missed out on the title, so we’re still disappointed about that.
“The focus now is on the international game against Russia next week. We showed what we could do against Germany and have to try build on that against Russia.” The Ireland women’s team meet Russia at Tallaght Stadium on Wednesday, May 7 in a World Cup qualifier.
Raheny United forward Katie McCabe was named Women’s National League Young Player of the Year, Peamount’s Stephanie Roche was the National League top scorer and the inaugural Women’s National League Hall of Fame winner was DLR Waves midfielder Sylvia Gee.
