Wolves not closing door on Doyle

Kevin Doyle has been told his career at Wolves may not be over.

Doyle joined Queens Park Rangers on loan last week, scoring on his debut, but if Wolves win promotion back to the Championship this season manager Kenny Jackett has hinted he might have the Irish striker back at Molineux.

“The deal with Kevin is that he is at Rangers until the end of the season and then he has another year on his contract here with us,” said Jackett.

“I am sure that at the end of the season there will be an assessment made. It will depend on where QPR are, how well he has played, how many times he has played.

“But I don’t think that we should close the door at all. Judging him as a person, Kevin is a top pro and a very good lad. But it really depends on what happens to both clubs over the next three months. Kevin’s form and what QPR think of him and also what he thinks of them and what other options he has — it will depend on those scenarios and how they play out over the next three months.

“It is a straight loan until the summer and I am sure QPR will also have a lot more options if they get into the Premier League than if they don’t. We wouldn’t close any doors at the moment and we would be foolish to do that. A lot can happen between now and the summer and the best thing is for us as a club is to concentrate on trying to get promoted.”

Meanwhile, Doyle’s fellow Ireland striker Simon Cox is hoping to catch the eye of the national team’s new management after earning 27 caps under Giovanni Trapattoni.

Said the Nottingham Forest man: “Roy Keane has been a regular visitor here and you’d hope he would see something in me that would persuade them to give me a call-up. The highlights of my career have been playing for Ireland. It’s something I’d love to do again — I’d love to get back there.”

Cox, 26, previously played in the Premier League with West Brom and is keen to get back to the top flight with a Forest side currently lying six points off the automatic promotion slots in the Championship.
