Giles calls on FA to do more in the wake of Leeds debacle

Leeds United legend John Giles has called on the English Football League to tighten their vetting procedures to avoid last weekend’s debacle at his former club.

In a bizarre 24-hour period, manager Brian McDermott was sacked by a lawyer acting on behalf of prospective new owner Massimo Cellino before being reinstated amid a backlash from fans and sponsors.

Giles, who played for the Elland Road club in a golden period between 1963 and 1975, feels McDermott will lose his job despite his reprieve.
