Three years on from a fruitless effort to recruit Kevin Doyle for Tottenham, Harry Redknapp yesterday succeeded at the second attempt by bringing the Ireland striker to Queen’s Park Rangers on loan.

The 30-year-old’s switch from Wolves until the end of the season was the major move for an Irishman on transfer deadline day, as Wes Hoolahan’s desire to leave Norwich City didn’t translate into a deal despite reported late interest by West Brom.

Doyle completed his medical in time to be eligible for today’s televised fixture against Burnley in the Championship, a stage the Wexfordman recently admitted was the least he needed to be operating at to revive his international career under new boss Martin O’Neill.
