Ten-man Blades blunt Fulham’s attack

League One strugglers United took the lead on the half hour as Porter picked up Harry Maguire’s cross in the box and toe-poked the ball past a diving David Stockdale.

The Blades, who are currently in the last relegation place in the League One table following a run of just one win in their last six league games, lost captain Michael Doyle after 52 minutes to a red card following a foul on Chris David.

And Hugo Rodallega equalised for the Cottagers deep into the second half as he picked up debutant Muamer Tankovic’s cross, making no mistake with his close-range effort.

“The manager’s been on about getting the ball across the front post and that’s where I was today and I managed to get my toe on it and poke it in,” said Porter.

“A few players have come in now and it’s all healthy competition for the lads and, hopefully, we’ll be doing a lot of swapping around and it’ll keep the lads fresh.”
