European champions Bayern Munich feel they have got the strongest opposition they could have faced after yesterday’s Champions League last 16 draw pitted them against Premier League leaders Arsenal.

Bayern beat Arsenal at the same stage of the competition last season, outclassing the Gunners 3-1 at the Emirates Stadium before surviving a scare in the second-leg in Munich to advance on the away goals rule.

“They are the strongest team we could have drawn and it’s certainly not what we were hoping for,” Bayern captain Philipp Lahm said.
