Derby battle back for point

Derby staged an incredible comeback in front of new head coach Steve McClaren to salvage a point from a 4-4 draw with Ipswich last night.

Derby battle back for point

The Rams fought back from a 4-1 half-time deficit as McClaren, unveiled as Nigel Clough’s successor on Tuesday, watched from the stands while academy manager Darren Wassall took charge of the first team.

Ipswich scored three times in the first quarter through Christophe Berra, Daryl Murphy and Aaron Cresswell. Zak Whitbread had reduced the deficit with a goal on his debut before Murphy made it 4-1 with his second goal of the night and the Rams looked dead and buried.

However, McClaren would have been delighted with what he saw after the break. Captain Craig Bryson gave Derby hope early in the second-half and Jamie Ward pulled another goal back on the hour.

Bryson then completed the comeback with the equaliser in the 88th minute.

Dominic Poleon volleyed home his first league goal of the season to clinch an unconvincing 2-1 win for Leeds over 10-man Bournemouth.

Second-half sub Poleon lashed home a knockdown from former Bournemouth defender Jason Pearce in the 80th minute to secure Leeds their first Championship win.

Andy Reid marked his recall to the Ireland squad by taking just two minutes to open the scoring with a well-taken free-kick for Nottingham Forest at Charlton last night.

However, the midfielder’s night was spoilt when the struggling Addicks hit back through Marvin Sordell’s 50th-minute equaliser.
