Wallace on song as Burnley sink City

Sean Dyche’s Clarets, who have been training in Cork for the past few days, were in front after five minutes with a lovely goal from Dannys Ings. Scottish international Ross Wallace picked out the striker with a neat cross and Ings controlled with his right and shot home with his left.

Last season’s top scorer Charlie Austin, who was set to move to Hull City for £4.5m last week but failed a medical, should have netted Burnley’s second in the 11th minute but headed the impressive Wallace’s cross over from 12 yards.

City keeper Kevin Burns pulled off a fine save midway through the half, pushing away Wallace’s piledriver from 25 yards.

City’s best chance of the half came six minutes before the break when Stephen Kenny’s looping header from John Kavanagh’s deep cross drifted narrowly wide.

Ireland international Keith Treacy was one of four substitutions made at half-time as Burnley upped the pace.

Wallace was again the provider for the second goal in the 59th minute, when he picked out midfielder Scott Ardfield, who slotted home from a tight angle.

Treacy came close to a third when his lob landed on the top of the net, before Ings did all the hard work as he waltzed past three defenders in the box but Burns made a good stop.

Burnley added a third five minutes from time when Treacy’s shot was deflected in off Sam Vokes.
