Liverpool new boys to fight for places

Goalkeeper Simon Mignolet and defender Kolo Toure insist they have not signed for Liverpool to make up the numbers and intend to challenge the established order.

The pair are two of Brendan Rodgers’ four summer signings, but more is expected of them than Celta Vigo forward Iago Aspas and Sevilla midfielder Luis Alberto.

Mignolet has the challenge of displacing Jose Reina, the long-time first choice, even if the suspicion remains he has been brought in as a replacement for the Spain international.
