Westwood faces ’keeper fight at Sunderland

New Sunderland goalkeeper Vito Mannone has warned Republic of Ireland goalkeeper Keiren Westwood he did not join the club to sit on the bench.

The 25-year-old Italian yesterday became the latest man to accept compatriot Paolo Di Canio’s offer of employment on Wearside as the manager moved to replace the departed Simon Mignolet.

Mannone has joined the Black Cats on a two-year deal from Arsenal for an undisclosed fee, understood to be around £2million.
