Alba brace sets up Spain and Italy semi-final

Spain will face Italy in the Confederations Cup semi-final after a 3-0 win over Nigeria last night saw the world and European champions finish top of Group B.

Jordi Alba scored twice, passing in following a flowing move early on and then rounding Nigerian goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama with two minutes left.

In between Chelsea striker Fernando Torres got his name on the scoresheet, heading home a Pedro cross two minutes after his introduction as a second half substitute.

In last night’s other game there was further humiliation for Tahiti as they crashed to an 8-0 defeat to Uruguay.

Tahiti had previously lost 6-1 to Nigeria and 10 to Spain and last night’s result means they finish the competition having conceded 24 goals and scored just one.

Abel Hernandez scored a first-half hat-trick to put Uruguay on course for victory last night.

The striker scored a header and finished a Nicolas Lodeiro pass before Diego Perez and Hernandez made it four. Lodeiro scored a fifth, Hernandez converted from the spot before substitute Luis Suarez added two more. Oscar Tabarez’s team will now face Brazil in the last four.
