Dortmund down Ronaldo and Real

Marcel Schmelzer’s second-half volley was enough to hand Borussia Dortmund a fine 2-1 win over Real Madrid and move the German champions to the top of Group D.

Dortmund down Ronaldo and Real

Robert Lewandowksi fired the hosts into the lead on 36 minutes but within two minutes Real were level as Cristiano Ronaldo lobbed in his fifth Champions League goal of the season.

However, Dortmund were the stronger side after half time and deservedly got the winner midway through the half as Iker Casillas’s weak punch was seized upon by Schmelzer, who sealed a famous night for Jurgen Klopp’s men.

Jackson Martinez’s brace proved just enough to edge out spirited Dynamo Kiev 3-2 as Porto kept their 100 per cent record in Group A intact.

Oleh Blokhin’s men pegged the Portuguese champions back twice, Oleg Gusev’s header cancelling out Silvestre Varela’s fine individual effort within 20 minutes.

Colombian striker Martinez sent the hosts in ahead at the break, only for Brown Ideye to level in the 71st minute. But after Martinez hit his seventh goal of the season, Porto held out to stay ahead of big-spending French outfit Paris St Germain, 2-0 winners in Zagreb against Dinamo.

Aleksandr Kerzhakov’s second-half penalty earned Zenit St Petersburg a first Champions League victory of the season at the expense of listless Anderlecht.

In a dire affair conducted under a constant Russian downpour, Zenit’s expensively assembled team could only fumble their way a 1-0 win.

Hulk and Axel Witsel, recruited for £64million from Porto and Benfica respectively, continued to struggle alongside their new Russian team-mates and it fell to Kerzhakov to make the points safe.

Also in Group C, Sanchez Joaquin’s 64th-minute strike was enough to earn Malaga a 1-0 win against Milan and keep them on top of the group.

Substitute Kostas Mitroglou scored an injury-time winner as Olympiacos stunned French champions Montpellier 2-1.

The Greek side had just two shots on target all night, but after skipper Vassilas Torosidis scored his first goal in over two years to cancel out Gaetan Charbonnier’s opener, Mitroglou tapped home the winner in the first minute of injury time.
