St Colman’s and De La Salle battle for top spot

The battle for supremacy in the six-team Group A in the Dr Harty Cup should become clearer following today’s round of games.

Currently, St Colman’s of Fermoy lead the way after a win and a draw against Coláistí Chiarraí and Clonmel CBS respectively, and they will aim to make it a third game unbeaten against De La Salle of Waterford at Dungarvan.

Both sides have recorded big wins against the Kerry amalgam to date. Alan Fenton is sure to be a key source of scores for Colman’s, while De La Salle will be hoping Darragh Flynn and Dessie Hutchinson can again contribute goals.

Ardscoil Rís, comfortable winners in their Limerick derby with Castletroy last time out, face Coláistí Chiarraí in Newcastlewest. In the other game, Castletroy and Clonmel will be seeking a win to kick-start their campaigns.

The battle at the top of Group C is tight, with Midleton CBS, Thurles CBS and Hamilton High School level on one win each. Midleton, for whom Aaron Stafford and Niall Motherway have impressed so far, meet Thurles in Cahir. Hamilton beat Coláiste Chríost Rí on the opening day thanks to good displays from Michael Cahalane and Trevor Horgan and they play Nenagh – who lost to Thurles two weeks ago – in Ballyagran, the game having been initially scheduled for Charleville.

Holders Coláistí na nDéise are currently top of Group D following victories over Doon CBS and Gaelcholáiste Mhuire AG. They can all but ensure their place in the quarter-finals with another win today when they play St Flannan’s in Cashel. David Gartland and Conor Dunford are among the champions’ key players, with Bobby Duggan likely to provide a number of points for Flannan’s.

Also in that group, St Caimin’s meet Doon at Claughaun with a win vital for each side. There is just one game in Group B, as Blackwater CS play Abbey CBS.
