Old boss Keane still an inspiration for Meyler

David Meyler could make his first appearance in a competitive senior international tonight and if he does, fellow Corkman Roy Keane will be amongst those who can take some of the credit.

Keane signed the central midfielder from Cork City when he was Sunderland manager and has maintained contact since leaving the Black Cats.

One of Keane’s successors, Steve Bruce has also been extremely supportive according to Meyler’s father, John but it is the former Republic of Ireland skipper who is the greatest inspiration.
