Ibrahimovic gets PSG off to a flyer
Carlo Ancelotti’s men never looked back after establishing a three-goal lead inside 32 minutes, thanks to Zlatan Ibrahimovic (penalty), Thiago Silva and Alex.
Although Miguel Veloso pulled a goal back four minutes from time, Javier Pastore wrapped up the scoring in injury-time.
In the other Group A match, Dinamo Zagreb suffered a 2-0 home defeat by FC Porto. Lucho Gonzalez scored on 41 minutes and Steven Defour secured the win in the last minute.
Borussia Dortmund will travel to Manchester City for their next Group D match in high spirits as they made a winning start last night. Poland striker Robert Lewandowski scored three minutes from time at home to Dutch champions Ajax.
In Arsenal’s Group B, Schalke opened their Champions League campaign with victory in a closely-fought game in Greece. Benedikt Howedes headed the German side in front four minutes before half-time and, after Djamel Abdoun equalised, Klaas Jan Huntelaar grabbed what proved to be the winner on 59 minutes. The Holland striker then missed a penalty.
In Group C, the Champions League failed to spark AC Milan’s stuttering season into life as they were held 0-0 at home by Belgian champions Anderlecht at the San Siro.
But the same couldn’t be said for Malaga. The Spanish side began their first ever Champions League campaign in perfect fashion as two stunning goals from Isco guided them to a 3-0 win over Zenit St Petersburg at La Rosaleda.
The game was barely three minutes old when the Spain U21 international bent a wonderful shot in off the inside of a post and Javier Saviola slid home a second 10 minutes later.
Isco thumped in a third from outside the area with 14 minutes left.
