James McClean would appear to be on a collision course with Giovanni Trapattoni after the Sunderland winger, who didn’t get called from the bench last night, made corrosive comments on Twitter about the Irish performance against Kazakhstan as well as expressing frustration at his own omission from the action.

Before it was taken down, the tweet read: “I’m delighted as a fan we got the win. Personal level #fuming #fuckin’ joke #embarrassing.”

Assuming the comments are confirmed as entirely authentic, they could well jeopardise the player’s immediate international future as well as creating further problems for a manager who is already under fire after Ireland came close to an embarrassing defeat in Astana.
