McCarthy rules himself out of Forest job
The former Wolves boss had been due to meet Forest’s new owners with a view to taking the vacant role at the City Ground.
But after talks the 53-year-old has indicated he does not intend to replace Steve Cotterill, who was sacked by the Championship club on Thursday.
McCarthy has been out of work since losing his job at Wolves in February.
Earlier, the Al-Hasawi family from Kuwait had suggested McCarthy was a frontrunner for the job but stressed he would be just one of a number of candidates they intended to meet.
“Mick is one of the people we are talking to, but there are others. If he meets our requirements, we would be honoured to work with Mick,” said Abdulaziz Al-Hasawi.
“We have interviewed some people on the phone but we’re starting to see people face to face and you get a much better impression when you see them face to face.
“They are more comfortable and can speak more openly.”
Fabio Capello, meanwhile, admits he cannot wait to get started in his new role as Russia’s head coach.
The former England boss is set to complete the formalities of his move to Moscow in the next few days following successful talks with the Russian Football Union (RFU).
Reports have suggested 66-year-old Capello has been offered a six-year deal which will take him up to the 2018 World Cup — a tournament Russia are hosting.
And the Italian is relishing his latest challenge.
“If everything is completed in the best possible way, as the announcement from the Russian Football Union states, I will be happy and proud,” he said.
“If, as I believe the case will be, all goes as planned in terms of the contract, it will be a splendid adventure. Russia are a great nation.”
Capello will succeed Dick Advocaat as Russia coach.
The Dutchman left the post to take charge at PSV Eindhoven following the team’s group-stage exit at Euro 2012.
