Keane off colour as LA crash

Ireland captain Robbie Keane and the host of stars at LA Galaxy stuttered again at the weekend as they were beaten 1-0 by New York Red Bulls.

Keane had LA’s best chance in the 13th minute, latching on to a Sean Franklin pass in the penalty area but he volleyed over New York keeper Ryan Meara.

Stuart Pearce was at the game in his capacity as manager of the British Olympic team. Beckham’s biggest contribution was to get booked, however.

“It wasn’t the prettiest of matches for him to come to,” Beckham admitted.

Joel Lindpere scored the only goal in the 19th minute.

Real Salt Lake beat the New England Revolution 2-1 despite playing more than half an hour with 10 men to pull level with the San Jose Earthquakes, who lost at Vancouver Whitecaps, at the top of the Western Conference.

Eastern Conference leaders Sporting Kansas City saw their lead cut to three points as they suffered just their second defeat of the season, 2-0 at home to the Montreal Impact.

Felipe Martins scored on the half-hour mark, and Patrice Bernier made it 2-0 from the spot in the 63rd minute. DC United took advantage to narrow the gap with a 2-0 win at Toronto FC.
