Battling Bohs get back to winning ways
The Gypsies’ third win from four matches this month has eased their relegation worries as they leapfrogged the Louth men into a comfortable mid-table position.
Despite losing at home to fellow strugglers Monaghan Utd last week, Aaron Callaghan’s side always looked the most likely to win this game and it was no surprise when McEvoy fired them in front after 26 minutes. Having tested Peter Cherrie moments earlier, he weaved his way past two defenders to fire home from 12 yards.
Dundalk, who came into the game on the back of a morale-boosting win away to Derry City last weekend, almost levelled straight away when Luke Danville met Shane O’Neill’s corner but his header was touched over the bar by Andy McNulty.
Despite a strong finish to the half from Sean McCaffrey’s side, they lacked a cutting edge in front of goal and so the visitors always looked the more likely to double their advantage.
They started the second half brightly with Stephen Traynor’s cross cum shot having to be kept out at the near post by Cherrie.
Daniel Corcoran then passed up a great chance to make it 2-0 on 55 minutes when a stray backpass from Ben McLaughlin put him through only for him to fire tamely at the keeper.
Bohs eventually made sure of the win on 71 minutes though with McMahon rifling to the top left hand corner after a superb passing move down the left.
