Mervue pick up first point

Mervue United registered their first point of the season but stay rooted to the bottom of the First Division after a poor encounter at Fahy’s Field last night.

Johnny Glynn’s side lined up without five regular defenders, but Waterford United failed to take advantage and had to be satisfied with a draw.

Paul Phelan had the best chance of a dour first half for Waterford, but he shot across the face of Brian O’Donoghue’s goal after 13 minutes.

Both Tom King and Alan Murphy made their season debuts from the bench for Mervue and 14 minutes from time, Murphy fired over, after King supplied the killer pass.

Darragh Walshe came close for the visitors late on but he failed to hit the target and the spoils were shared.
