Doyle and Fahey set to recover for Czech clash as Henderson gets call-up

Fulham’s Stephen Kelly is out of tomorrow’s friendly against the Czech Republic. And Portsmouth goalkeeper Stephen Henderson has been called into Giovanni Trapattoni’s squad to replace Kieran Westwood, who sustained a wrist injury in training yesterday.

Otherwise, the Irish squad trained routinely in Malahide yesterday, with the sight of Kevin Doyle and Keith Fahey sitting out the session in the dugout attributed to a need for rest and recuperation from minor knocks.

According to assistant manager Marco Tardelli, both will be available for selection.

Bad news for the Czechs, however, is that captain Tomas Rosicky — who impressed for Arsenal against Spurs on Sunday — has been ruled out with a back injury. Coach Michal Bilek has called up Jiri Stajner of Czech club Liberec instead and has also replaced injured Hertha Berlin defender Roman Hubnik with David Limbersky of Czech champions Viktoria Plzen.

Ireland’s European 2012 group opponents Croatia (v Sweden), Spain (v Venezuela) and Italy (v USA) are all in warm-up action tomorrow, and Tardelli was asked yesterday what he made of strikers Mario Balotelli of Italy and Fernando Torres of Spain being left out of the latest squads.

The assistant manager said: “I don’t know why Balotelli was left out and it’s not my business but Cesare (Prandelli) knows Italian football. But I still think Balotelli will be in the squad for the Euros. He plays very, very well and the Italian team needs him. Torres is a bigger surprise for me but at this moment in Spain there are many good strikers. And I don’t know if the coach will decide to include Torres for the European Championship. It is a big surprise.”

As to Giovanni Trapattoni’s u-turn on James McClean, Tardelli remarked with a smile: “Sometimes it’s possible to change your mind. We know McClean very well but it’s better to see him for ourselves in training.”
