Goal-hungry Glentoran batter Bray

Keith Long’s Bray Wanderers’ first foray into the Setanta Sports Cup didn’t stretch beyond the first round.

Goal-hungry Glentoran batter Bray

Bray followed up their 4-2 first-leg defeat at the Carlisle Grounds against Glentoran with a 3-0 away defeat to the east Belfast side at The Oval last night.

Glentoran took the lead in the 11th minute when Darren Boyce headed in a Stephen Carson free-kick. Carson whipped in the set-piece from the left and Boyce was on hand at the back post.

The east Belfast side snuffed out any flickering hope Bray might have had in first-half stoppage time when Stephen Carson was once again the provider from the left. His pinpoint cross found captain Colin Nixon, who headed high into the net.

Glentoran completed their victory in the 75th minute when Darren Boyce hammered a penalty into Darren Quigley’s net after Dane Massey hauled down Andy Waterworth in the box.

Bray will know they will need to improve if they’re to perform well in this season’s Airtricity League but this humbling does not bode well for the new season.

Elsewhere Adam Martin got an 86th minute winner as Bohemians beat Portadown 1-0 on the night and secured a 3-1 aggregate win.
