Uruguay president backs ‘wonderful’ Suarez

The president of Uruguay, Jose Mujica, has waded into the Luis Suarez controversy and offered his full backing to the Liverpool forward for refusing to shake Patrice Evra’s hand before last week’s Premier League defeat at Manchester United.

Mujuca was speaking on the same day that Uruguay’s national team captain Diego Lugano also supported Suarez’s handshake snub towards Evra.

Lugano’s club Paris Saint-Germain was linked with a swoop for Suarez at the end of the season. French paper L’Equipe, used the headline ‘Paris reaches out to Suarez’ and claimed PSG had already made contact with Suarez’s representatives to discuss a move.
