Keane blasts Evra display

As if it wasn’t enough that he was booed mercilessly by Liverpool fans throughout Saturday’s FA Cup clash at Anfield and was culpable for Dirk Kuyt’s late winner, he was also on the receiving end of a stinging verbal blast from Manchester United legend Roy Keane.

Keane was furious at the Frenchman’s lapse the game’s crucial goal ‘‘I’ve seen Evra so many times in the bigger games and I think he gets caught out in a lot of the big games,’’ Keane, who was analysing the game for ITV, said.

‘‘He should be cutting in, he’s let Kuyt get in on the wrong side of him and I bet you the boy couldn’t believe his luck. You’d expect Carroll to win it (the long ball). When you’re a defender — Carroll’s six foot four — expect him to win it, Evra (should) smell the danger.’’

Keane praised Liverpool’s display, saying they ‘‘deserve great credit for the way they stuck at it’’ but prior to kick-off he was less complimentary about Kenny Dalglish’s side.

Asked if Dalglish can make Liverpool great again, Keane replied: ‘‘It’ll take a long time. I think a lot of the players playing at Liverpool aren’t good enough to deal with the pressure of playing for Liverpool. They’ve come up short.”
