The show goes on and Giggs proves deadly as ever

RYAN GIGGS believes Manchester United are in indomitable form right now.

Alex Ferguson’s side picked up their second victory in west London in four days on Wednesday as they brushed aside Fulham.

Danny Welbeck, Nani, Giggs, Wayne Rooney and Dimitar Berbatov netted the goals as United secured a comfortable 5-0 victory by the Thames.

Giggs’ effort means he has now scored in all 20 Premier League seasons, but the veteran midfielder was more pleased by the team performance.

“It’s been a good few weeks,” Giggs said. “You saw what we’re capable of at Fulham and that’s the standard we set ourselves. It was a similar story at QPR last Sunday. There, we just didn’t finish the chances off. Today we managed to score the goals.

“To come to a place like Craven Cottage and have that sort of movement and interplay was first-class. For myself and Michael Carrick in midfield, the movement in front of us was brilliant. Obviously the defending was good as well. But when you have so many options on the ball – people running in behind, people dropping in the hole – we’re a very difficult team to play. The performance was really pleasing.”

United’s victory maintains the pressure on Manchester City heading into Christmas, with Wigan travelling to Old Trafford on St. Stephen’s Day. Ashley Young and Phil Jones look set to miss out after picking up injuries in west London but Giggs is confident of picking up another three points.

“We have to carry on the form we’re in at the moment,” the 38-year-old added. “If we do that we’re a very hard team to beat, especially at home. At Old Trafford we always expect to go out and win but we still need to go out with the same hunger and appetite as we had at Fulham.”

United had failed to win on their past three visits to Craven Cottage but never looked in danger of thi time,ending their hoodoo thanks to an imperious display.

Fulham left-back John Arne Riise was embarrassed by the 5-0 mauling and was in philosophical mood after the match. We played poorly in the first-half, gave away three stupid goals and the game was really over after that,” he said.

“We were disappointed because we were up for it before the game, but the early goal put us on the back foot, they got the momentum and we never recovered.”

Fulham face a tough-looking Christmas period, with trips to Chelsea and Norwich before Arsenal come to Craven Cottage at the start of 2012.
