Martinez apologises for spitting incident

WIGAN boss Roberto Martinez has apologised to his Wolves counterpart Mick McCarthy over the spitting incident which has seen Latics skipper Antolin Alcaraz suspended for three games.

Martinez apologises for spitting incident

Alcaraz has accepted an FA misconduct charge after appearing to spit at Wolves defender Richard Stearman during Sunday’s Premier League clash at Molineux.

The incident happened during the latter stages of Wolves’ 3-1 win and sparked a flare-up involving players from both sides.

McCarthy said: “What happened is unacceptable. I have spoken to Roberto and he apologised on behalf of the club. I don’t think that is indicative of Wigan, of Roberto or Dave Whelan (club owner). They are lovely people, a lovely club, and I think he (Alcaraz) has just made a mistake.’’
