The Good

Eddie Nolan: The defender grabbed a rare goal to help Scunthorpe to a 2-1 win at Stevenage in Saturday’s League One clash. It was a strike to savour too as Nolan cut in from the left and fired home an unstoppable shot from just outside the penalty area on the struck of half time. The goal helped secure a much-needed win as Scunthorpe moved four points clear of the relegation zone.

Cillian Sheridan: The former Cavan minor footballer continued his impressive start to the season by scoring St Johnstone’s winner in their 2-1 triumph at Kilmarnock. Sheridan, on loan at the Saints from Bulgarian side CSKA Sofia, was the hero of the hour, rounding Kilmarnock goalkeeper Cammy Bell and tucking home the winner after 73 minutes, his fourth goal in three games for the club.

The bad

Mark Yeates: The Dubliner endured a tough day at the office as his Watford side were hammered 4-0 by Championship leaders Southampton. For Yeates, who was substituted after 56 minutes, it was a frustrating day as his side were comprehensively outclassed by a vastly superior Saints outfit.

Jon Daly: The striker continues to bang in the goals and is currently third top scorer with six goals in the SPL. The problem for Daly is Dundee United’s defence is as leaky as he is deadly. Saturday was a case in point with Daly scoring after 77 minutes when his side were trailing 3-0 at that stage, rendering his effort futile.

The ugly

Jonathan Douglas: The former Leeds United midfielder endured a miserable weekend as his Brentford side crashed to a 4-0 League One defeat at home to Huddersfield Town. Douglas struggled to exert an influence as Brentford, who trailed 1-0 after 70 minutes, collapsed in the final 20.

Anthony Pilkington: The former Huddersfield Town man missed a great chance to give Norwich City the lead against Manchester United at Old Trafford. With the game in the melting pot at 0-0 Pilkington, a former Ireland U21 international found himself clean through on goal but fired agonisingly wide.
