Cascarino makes on-air gaffe

ARSENAL supporters won’t be the only ones having nightmares after the Gunners’ 8-2 humiliation against Manchester United at Old Trafford yesterday.

Former Republic of Ireland international Tony Cascarino sparked outrage when he described Arsenal defender Armand Traore as ‘having a holocaust’ on Sky Sports News.

Cascarino’s gaffe came when he was asked for an update on the game as United were winning 3-1.

Cascarino said: “Poor oul Traore at right-back is having a holocaust because he is finding himself against Nani who is literally running at him from everywhere and [Andrey] Arshavin is not tracking his runners.’’

Sky Sports News presenter Natalie Sawyer immediately made an on-air apology for his comments.

“I should just say that if anyone was offended by what you just said I have to make an apology,’’ she said.

Sky later issued a statement which read: “Tony Cascarino made his comments in the heat of the moment. An immediate apology on behalf of Tony and Sky Sports was made on air as soon as possible for any offence caused.’’
