FIRST DIVISION table toppers Shelbourne consolidated their position with a convincing away win over promotion hopefuls Limerick FC at Jackman Park last night.
David Cassidy’s 41st minute close-range header sent Shels on their way to ending Limerick’s 11-match unbeaten run.
Limerick gave themselves a mountain to climb when John Frost was sent off after receiving his second yellow card for dissent in the 72nd minute.
Things then went from bad to worse for Pat Scully’s side when Phil Hughes picked himself up after being fouled in the box by Brian McCarthy and slotted home the penalty.
Conan Byrne put the icing on the cake with Shels’ third goal two minutes from time.

NEW Blues signing Adam McSharry showed his class as Waterford United destroyed a poor Salthill Devon outfit 4-0 at the RSC last night.
After having two early goals disallowed, the breakthrough arrived on 43 minutes when Dwayne Wilson headed home.
McSharry doubled his sides lead with his first goal for the club on 58 minutes.
McSharry then set up Paul Murphy on 86 minutes and his cracking right-footed strike from 25 yards flew into the bottom left-hand corner. The Blues scored their fourth goal 27 seconds later and fittingly it was man of the match McSharry who completed the scoring.
