FIFA to look into unusual betting patterns

FIFA has begun an investigation into unusual betting patterns after the international match between Nigeria and Argentina, after unusual betting patterns indicated it had been targeted by match-fixers.

A FIFA spokesman said the match “forms part of a wider ongoing Fifa investigation”.

With Nigeria leading 4-0, there was large bets in some gambling markets which appeared to anticipate a fifth goal.

Referee Ibrahim Chaibou awarded a penalty for Argentina in the eighth minute of added time, which was successfully converted.
