THEY may have seen Manchester United effectively overtake their record of 18 league titles just 24 hours earlier, but the Reds of Liverpool were in buoyant mood last night as they hammered hapless Fulham to move back into fifth place.

Maxi Rodriguez scored a hat-trick – his second in a fortnight – as Fulham were beaten at home in the league for the first time since Stephen’s Day.

With Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp watching, Liverpool moved back above Spurs into fifth place and kept alive the faintest of hopes that they could yet overtake Manchester City to reach the fourth Champions League spot.
