ONE suspects that if Darron Gibson is still seen as an enemy within at Manchester United after a performance that booked his team a place in the Champions League final, then he really does have no future at Old Trafford.

As much as the 2-0 scoreline and the manner of last week’s victory in Gelsenkirchen suggested that the passage to Wembley would be straightforward enough, just a week after he was hounded from Twitter by his own fans, Gibson proved the difference last night.

The Republic of Ireland midfielder clipped a pass through for Antonio Valencia to open the scoring on the night and then rammed in a trademark long-range effort, with a big helping hand from Manuel Neuer, to double the advantage.
