Keane plays down link to Melbourne

Keane’s former Manchester United teammate Mark Bosnich cryptically tweeted to his thousands of followers: “Roy Keane to Melbourne would b a gr8 coup for Melbourne Victory and the A-League. Watch this space!!!”

Subsequently the former Republic of Ireland skipper was spotted in the crowd at the clash of Sydney FC and Shanghai Shenhua match at the Sydney Football Stadium.

When approached for a comment about replacing Ernie Merrick at the helm in Melbourne, Keane replied: “‘No,” before adding: ‘‘I’m just here to watch the match with my son.”

Melbourne officials could not be reached for a comment last night.

Keane, who is understood to be on holidays with his family Down Under, had his contract terminated by Championship club Ipswich in January after a two-year spell at Portman Road.
