Dillon double delivers victory for Sligo
Rovers made the breakthrough in the third minute when Dillon rattled David Quirke’s net after the Drogheda keeper kept out a Richie Ryan effort.
Colin O’Brien went close for the visitors after six minutes as Mick Cooke’s side went in search of a quick equaliser.
Raffaele Cretaro almost caught Drogheda napping on 12 minutes but the visitors’ defence was able to block.
Drogheda missed a gilt-edged chance to level matters in the 17th minute when David Freeman blasted wide from a Colin O’Brien cross.
Sligo were awarded a penalty after 19 minutes when Iarlaith Davoren was hauled down but a superb save by the Drogheda keeper denied Alan Keane.
Good defending by Stephen Quigley averted the danger as Arron Greene bore down on the visitors’ goal in the 32nd minute.
Dillon made the game safe as he bagged his second goal of the night in the 58th minute after a John Russell shot came back off the woodwork.
