Milan in mood but Pirlo out of Spurs tie
The bad news for Milan is veteran star Andrea Pirlo is out of both Champions League clashes with Tottenham, starting in the San Siro tomorrow.
Against Parma, Clarence Seedorf put the Rossoneri ahead after eight minutes and Antonio Cassano added the second within 10 minutes.
Two goals from substitute Robinho in the space of five second-half minutes allowed Milan to take it easy for the last 25 minutes, having secured the three points.
But midfielder Pirlo has been ruled out for six weeks after suffering knee ligament damage.
The 31-year-old had been due to return to the Milan side to face Parma after three weeks out with a hamstring injury, but he picked up the new problem in training.
A shocking late miss by Samuel Eto’o condemned Inter Milan to defeat at Juventus.
The in-form Alessandro Matri scored the only goal on the half-hour to leave Juventus in sixth place in Serie A, three points behind their opponents.
But it could have been so different as, with less than two minutes of the 90 remaining, Eto’o smashed against the crossbar when full-back Maicon’s cross presented him with an open goal – and followed that aberration with a complete air-shot when teed up by Wesley Sneijder a minute later.
Claudio Ranieri says he is focused firmly on Wednesday’s Champions League clash with Shakhtar Donetsk after his Roma side were beaten 2-0 by Napoli.
The loss was all the more painful as Ranieri’s men had gone into the yesterday’s match in Rome as the only Serie A team yet to lose at home this season.
However, Ranieri expects his side to bounce back immediately.
“One defeat cannot undo the work we have done in one-and-a-half years,” he said. “On Wednesday we face another difficult encounter and we have to prepare for it in the best possible way.”
Napoli striker Edinson Cavani hit both goals for Napoli, who keep the pressure on Milan at the top.
