Starlet Coleman rejoices at sweet new Toffees deal

SEAMUS COLEMAN says he is “over the moon” at signing a new four-and-half-year deal for Everton.

The Donegal native, who only signed for the Toffees from Sligo Rovers in January 2009, has been outstanding for his club this season after going out on loan last term to help Blackpool secure a place in the Premier League. The new contract means the 22-year-old is set to stay at Goodison Park until at least 2015.

“I’m over the moon to sign the contract,” he says. “My aim was to keep impressing after every contract and this new one proves that I’ve been doing well. I just want to keep going now.”

Coleman scored against West Ham — Everton’s opponents tomorrow — when the sides shared a 1-1 draw at Upton Park earlier this season but, despite the Hammers being bottom of the table, he expects another tough battle at Goodison.

“The Premier League this season is so tight and everyone is beating everyone, apart from United at the top,” he says. “You can’t take anything for granted”

Once the weekend is over, Coleman’s thought will turn to international duty when Giovanni Trapattoni — reportedly now fully recovered from his recent surgery — arrives in Dublin on Monday to name his squad for the Carling Nations’ Cup game against Wales at the Aviva Stadium on February 8.

Trapattoni controversially left the player on the bench for the friendly defeat to Norway in November, a decision unlikely to be repeated.
