Blackburn table sensational £6.2m bid for ace Ronaldinho
Reports of a move for the former World Player of the Year emerged early yesterday with Rovers’ new owners Venky’s keen to make a splash in the transfer window.
Venky’s initially denied making any move for Ronaldinho, but last night confirmed they have lodged a £6.2 million (€7.1m) bid for the former Barcelona star.
Ronaldinho’s future has been the subject of speculation for some time with the playmaker having just six months to run on his current contract. It was thought Ronaldinho would return to his native Brazil this month, with former club Gremio keen to sign the 30-year-old.
However, Blackburn have now thrown their hat into the ring as they look to lure the skilful attacker to the Premier League.
Gremio remain favourites to land Ronaldinho, but Blackburn are waiting in the wings to sign him if he fails to agree a return to his homeland.
Meanwhile, David Beckham’s possible return to the Premier League would only be on a short-term loan basis, according to a spokesman for the former England captain.
Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder Beckham has targeted a return to Europe during the MLS close season as he bids to force his way back into Fabio Capello’s international plans.
Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has confirmed his side are in talks over a possible move for the 35-year-old and he hinted that a permanent deal could follow any initial loan switch.
However, Beckham’s representative revealed that Galaxy are yet to give the green light for their marquee signing to join any other club until March and that the former Manchester United and Real Madrid man remains committed to his contract in the US.
“At the moment, we are waiting on the decision of LA Galaxy with regards to a loan move,” the spokesman said.
“The loan would be a short one until the start of the MLS season. David would then return and play a full season with the Galaxy.
“Tottenham are one of many clubs who are interested, but as yet we have not got into any detailed conversations as we are waiting on LA Galaxy’s decision.”
A decision is expected from Galaxy early this week about whether to sanction a loan deal for their star player, who picked up injuries during his spells with Milan.
